HGV Class 2 Cat C Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Class 2 (Cat C) HGV licence?
A Class 2 HGV licence, also known as a Category C or LGV Class 2 licence, allows you to drive rigid vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and up to 32 tonnes. These include refuse trucks, tippers, box vans and other large goods vehicles.
Can I go straight to Class 2 training from a car licence?
Yes. As long as you hold a full UK car (Category B) licence and are medically fit, you can apply for a provisional HGV licence and begin Class 2 training without any prior HGV experience.
How long does the training take?
Our Class 2 training courses range from 16 to 36 hours depending on your experience and confidence level. Most learners complete training and pass within 1 to 2 weeks.
Do I need to pass a theory test before I can train?
Yes. You must pass both the multiple-choice and hazard perception theory tests before beginning your on-road practical training. We provide revision materials and support to help you prepare.
Is the Driver CPC included in the course?
Yes. All our Class 2 packages include CPC Module 4 as standard. This is a legal requirement if you intend to drive commercially.
What vehicles can I drive with a Class 2 licence?
You’ll be qualified to drive rigid goods vehicles up to 32 tonnes, including supermarket delivery lorries, construction trucks, tippers, and waste collection vehicles.
What if I fail a test – do I have to pay again?
We offer optional Pass Protection which covers one free retest per test element (3a, 3b, or Module 4). It’s a great safety net if you’re nervous about test day.
Are there any finance options available?
Yes. We’ve partnered with PayPal to offer flexible monthly payment plans. You can apply online and train without the need for upfront payment in full.
